The battles of pirates
The art of battles was very important for pirates because it was the main way to get the prey and profits. That is why pirates elaborated the best and the greatest form of the battle that became famous all over the world.
But the most famous was boarding of a ship by pirates. Ships of the enemies were getting as close as they could usually broadside to broadside after that both ships were connected strongly with each other with the help of ropes. And then the boarding crew was attacking the sailors.
Later this way was used as the way to connect the ships to transmit cargo and people from one ship to another.
Boarding with the military aims was used to conquer the ships and the precious things they had. The crew of pirates had the battle on board of another ship with the sailors with the use of gun and fighting technique.
There was the rope net put over the deck of the ship that had to protect from the pieces of the falling spars. To protect quarter deck where all ways of the ship navigation were situated the barricades made of woods were fixed that were filled with the iron pieces.
The captured ship under the control of the pirates' crew was got to the port. But with the development of the steam fleet and ship artillery this form of maritime battle lost its significance and advantages.
